A senior minister in the KP Oli government has said Prime Minister KP Oli will remain in power even if the Parliament passes the no-confidence motion, for the Constitution has not envisioned formation of a new government in the time of transition.

Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Bhim Rawal said this at a face-to-face that Reporters’ Club Nepal had organised on Monday. He said, citing constitutional provisions, that Prime Minister Oli will remain in power till federal parliamentary elections even if the motion gets the House nod.

Three major parties — the Nepali Congress, the Prachanda-led Maost party and the CPN-UML — had agreed that a UML-led government will conduct elections, Rawal said, adding: That is why the constitution envisioned only one government during the transition.

The senior UML leader pointed that Article 298 of the Constitution, which has stipulated only one government for the transitional period, is applicable to the first government formed after promulgation of the Charter.
