Kathmandu, April 4

Various nongovernment organisations have prepared a position paper on the situation of girls in Nepal, highlighting legal provisions on rights of the girls in the country.

The paper was launched by Minister for Children, Women and Senior Citizens Tham Maya Thapa amidst a function in Kathmandu on Tuesday, March 26.

Jagriti Child and Youth Concern Nepal, which led the process and hosted the event, informs that the paper was prepared after a consultation with civil society organisations at local, provincial and federal levels.

Besides legal provisions for girls, the paper also proposes an advocacy plan to ensure effective implementation of the rights and recommendations for next reforms, according to Milan Dharel, one of the drafters of the paper.

Speaking at the function, Minister Thapa says the government would implement the recommendations as far as possible. She was of the view that the local governments should play an active role to ensure child rights.
