Nepal is preparing to hold the national population census next year. The Central Bureau of Statistics says preparations are underway for the event held every 10 years.

The bureau’s Director-General Navin Lal Shrestha says the government’s pre-census projection has put the country’s current population at more than 30 million. Likewise, there are around seven million families.

This projection is based on the population growth rate calculated during the 2011 census. As per that, the country’s population today is 30 million and 142,266.

The bureau will conduct the census from June 8 to 22 in 2021. Around 43,000 enumerators will be mobilised whereas they will be supervised by 9,000 other staff.

Different committee will be formed from the federal to the ward level for the project.

Nepal’s first population census was done in 1911. The 2021 census will be the 12th one.
