Nepal Aushadhi Limited, a government-run drug manufacturer of the country, says it has resumed operation after a long gap of seven years.

The company is beginning to produce essential medicines including paracetamols from January last week, says NAL Managing Director Robhash Kusam Subedi.

He says the company has already brought raw materials and prepared plans for packaging and distribution. So far, 90 per cent preparations have been over, according to him.

He said the company now boasts 28 modern machinery to ensure better quality control. The Microbiology Department has been upgraded as per the Good Laboratory Practice Standard.

The company had stopped producing medicines around seven years ago. But, it has now begun producing oral rehydration solution (Jeevanjal) just few months back.

The government has invested Rs 64.8 million to resume operation. Subedi says the government has assured to give Rs 120 million again, but it has not been delivered yet.

The company plans to expand the production. Eight kinds of medicines, which the government has been distributing free of cost, are on the priority, according to Subedi.
