An international study has found that Nepal’s rate of death attributed to air pollution is highest in South Asia.

According to the State of Global Air 2018 report, 215.6 in every 100,000 people of Nepal die due to air pollution as of 2016.

For the same year, the rates in Pakistan, Bangladesh, India and Bhutan are 207.1, 198.6, 194.7 and 114 respectively per 100,000 persons.

However, the number of deaths due to air pollution is steadily decreasing in Nepal since 1990, according to the report.

In terms of overall air pollution, Bangladesh is worse than Nepal in the region.

The population-weighted annual average PM2.5 concentrations were 101 µg/m3 in Bangladesh, 78 µg/m3 in Nepal, and 76 µg/m3 in both India and Pakistan.
