Nepal’s celebrated mountaineer Ang Rita Sherpa cremated with state honours

Ang Kaji Sherpa, also known as the Snow Leopard in the international mountaineering community, has been cremated with state honours on Wednesday.

Sherpa, 72, had breathed his last on Monday. He had climbed Mount Everest 10 times without supplemental oxygen.

A cabinet meeting held on Tuesday had decided to give him the state honours in the funeral. Accordingly, Tourism Minister Yogesh Bhattarai draped the national flag over Sherpa’s body before cremation today.

A troop of security personnel offered him a salute as the last tribute.

His body was cremated at the confluence of Bagmati and Bishnumati in Teku of the capital as per family rituals.
