Kathmandu, March 11

Metropolitan police have come to the rescue of a youth with suicidal tendencies. A team under Inspector Pashupati Kumar Raya, deployed from the Metropolitan Crime Division, came to the rescue of the youth, who had written on his Facebook account that he was going to take his own life.

After our counselling, the youth promised to keep his thoughts in check. On March 10, the youngster had posted a suicide note on his Facebook account.  Facebook Ireland, which monitors Facebook users based in South Asia, studied the youth’s profile after the post and found it to be inactive. At 12.23 am on Thursday, it alerted Nepal Police and appealed it to save the youth.

After receiving this message, a team under Inspector Raya launched a swift investigation and found that the youth was from Jhapa and pursuing a BA degree. Police counseled the youth and managed to bring him back to life, literally.

Police’s swift action surprised the youth. He thanked them and promised to rein in his thoughts.

After Thursday’s episode, police have appealed guardians to keep a tab on their young children and offer them suggestions to prevent them from coming into harm’s way.
