Nepal sure to achieve middle-income status by 2030: Minister Gyawali

Lisbon, Portugal, July 25

Minister for Foreign Affairs, Pradeep Kumar Gyawali, has said that the country has been on track in its aim to develop Nepal a middle-income country in the next 12 years.

“The country is advancing towards the path to development and prosperity with the end of instability and transition. The people have given a mandate for establishing stability and prosperity. The incumbent government is working towards that end,” he said at an interaction organised jointly by the Pravasi Nepali Manch, Nepali Janapragati Manch, and Non-Resident Nepali Association, in Lisbon of Portugal on Tuesday.

The Minister is on an official visit to Portugal at the invitation of his Portuguese counterpart Augusto Santos Silva.

The government is working to create environment conducive to attract foreign investment, he said, adding “Nepal will use various channels like neighbouring countries, development partners, labour receiving countries and United Nations in this regard.”

Saying that Nepal is enjoying hands-off approach from neighbouring India and China, he said the ties with them were moving ahead through a new level.
