Kathmandu, September 29
Foreign Minister Shishir Khanal held a bilateral meeting with Sri Lanka’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism Vijitha Herath in New York on Monday.
Khanal, who is in New York to attend the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly, held the meeting with his Sri Lankan counterpart on the sidelines of the assembly, according to his secretariat.
The two ministers discussed ways to further strengthen Nepal-Sri Lanka bilateral relations.
During the meeting, Khanal expressed sympathy and solidarity with communities affected by Nepal’s recent devastating climate-related disasters. He also thanked the Sri Lankan government and people for providing economic and humanitarian assistance to Nepal.
The two ministers exchanged views on various aspects of the friendly and cooperative relations between Nepal and Sri Lanka.
They emphasised the need to convene meetings under existing bilateral mechanisms and expressed their commitment to expanding and strengthening cooperation in areas of mutual interest, including trade, tourism, education, culture, connectivity and people-to-people relations.
