Dhangadhi, July 2

Counting of votes has been suspended again in Kailali’s Dhangadi sub-metropolis is Province 7 of Far-west Nepal.

Representatives form various political parties contesting the polls demanded that the count be halted after 300 unaccounted ballot papers were found inside one of the ballot boxes. Kailali’s chief returning officer Dhan Singh Mahara said talks are underway to resolve the situation.

This is the second time that the counting process was halted since the count began on Thursday. The first time around, local leaders had said there was inconsistency in the record-keeping on the part of election officials.

Counting has already concluded in wards 1, 2, 11 and 18. The Nepali Congress leads the race for Mayor, while an independent candidate, the UML candidate and the Maoist candidate are second, third and fourth in the race respectively so far.
