The KP Sharma Oli-led ruling coalition is increasing the salary of government employees by 20 per cent. However, the advisory committee comprising chief secretary, secretary at the Ministry of General Administration and secretary at the Prime Minister’s Office has suggested the government to give government employees a hike of up to 25 per cent.

If it’s difficult to give the employees a straight hike, the government can hike salary by increasing uniform allowance, dearness and grade adjustment, the committee has stated.

The suggestion comes at a time when sections of the public are pointing that hike in government employees’ pay will increase inflation. Additionally, the committee has forwarded a 13-point proposal to the Ministry of Finance, recommending health insurance of at least one lakh rupees for each government employee and vehicles registered under their own names for employees, who are entitled to government vehicles.

Apart from this, the government is also preparing to come up with various populist programmes which, experts say, will affect the national economy negatively.

What do you think of this government plan to hike its employees’ salary in a veiled way? Will it do the national economy any good? Feel free to comment.
