Kathmandu, May 25
Nepal has established diplomatic relations with The Gambia, a country in West Africa.
With this, the number of countries diplomatically connected to Nepal has reached 170, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Of late, the government has also prioritised establishing ties with small and distant countries also.
Nepal’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations in New York, Amrit Kumar Rai, signed an agreement in this regard with his Gambian counterpart Lang Yabou, in New York, on Monday. Accordingly, the UN has also been informed of the establishment of the links.
Both Nepal and The Gambia are members of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM).
The African country had obtained the United Nations membership in 1965.
