Nepal enforces compulsory digitisation of TV in major cities

Kathmandu, March 23

Nepal’s Ministry of Communication says analog TV services will not be allowed in major cities of the country after April 28.

Analog services will be cut off in Kathmandu, Lalitpur, Birgunj, Biratnagar and Pokhara, officials say. Similarly, the measure will be applied to all municipalities across the country from November 1. From Aroil 2018, all analog services throughout the country will be stopped.

The ministry says analog services have become old and their quality has deteriorated over time. That is why they are being displaced. Consumer will have to buy a set-top box or switch to DTH to receive digital signal.
