Nepal Covid-19 tally: 540 new cases, 271 recoveries, 1 death in 24 hours

Kathmandu, January 6

The Ministry of Health and Population has informed that Nepal’s Covid-19 tally has reached 926,925 as of Thursday afternoon.

The ministry said 540 new cases were confirmed in the country in the past 24 hours.

In this period, 7,209 swab samples were tested in the RT-PCR method, of which returned 478 returned positive. Likewise, 4,890 people underwent antigen tests for the virus, of which an additional 62 tested positive.

Of total tests, 6.63 per cent of the PCR and 1.26 per cent of antigen samples returned positive, keeping the overall per-day positivity rate at 4.46 per cent.

As of today, there are 5,431 active cases across the country. Of them, 362 are hospitalised, 79 in intensive care units and 14 on ventilators.

In the past 24 hours, 271 people have achieved recovery whereas the government says there was 1 death today.

Of the total cases so far, 813,447 people have achieved recovery. Likewise, 11,602 died, according to the ministry. The country’s recovery rate is 98 per cent and the death rate is 1.4 per cent.

Meanwhile, 120,653 people were vaccinated today.
