Kathmandu, January 1

The Supreme Court on Sunday initiated a hearing on a writ petition against the Constitution Amendment Bill. A bench of Chief Justice Sushila Karki and Ishwar Prasad Khatiwada is hearing the case.

The hearing did not end as Karki had to leave for a meeting of the Judicial Council.

After the Prachanda government registered the Bill seeking to change boundaries of Province 5, petitioners had filed two writs challenging the Bill. On December 8, the court had issued show cause notices in response to the writs. SC had summoned both the defendants and plaintiffs for a hearing on whether or not it should issue an interim order.
