Nepal assures BIMSTEC Summit will be held at the earliest

Nepal government has assured that it is committed to host the next summit of Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC) at the earliest.

Nepal is due to hold the fourth summit of regional body comprising Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Myanmar, Nepal, Sri Lanka and Thailand.

Earlier, the summit was scheduled for 2017, but was postponed later.

Receiving BIMSTEC Secretary General M Shahidul Islam at his official residence in Baluwatar of Kathmandu today, Nepal’s Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli said Nepal, as the current chair, was for formulating immediate, midterm and longterm plans for BIMSTEC.

He also added that regional organisations should support development and prosperity of member states.

“We should move fast towards economic and social development,” the PM reportedly told his guest, “I hope BIMSTEC is committed to the process.”
