
Kathmandu, September 26
A Nepal Airline Airbus en route to Kathmandu from New Delhi was forced to make an emergency landing at the Tribhuvan International Airport on Monday afternoon.
According to airport officials, smoke was reported on board the A320 ‘Lumbini’ as it approached Kathmandu, and was flying at an altitude of 12.5 thousand feet. A total of 163 people, including crew members were on board.
TIA spokesperson Premnath Thakur said the crew requested emergency landing at 15:25 hrs, and the tower decided to call it an emergency at 15:29. The runway was shut, and other planes preparing to land in Kathmandu were diverted to Lucknow.
Thakur said the plane was thoroughly inspected, but no problem was detected.
