Kathmandu, December 18
The Nepal Academy, a government institution formed to develop Nepali art and literature, says it has recently acquired the house of Mahakavi Laxmi Prasad Devkota in Maitidevi, KMC-30. The academy plans to convert the house of the most celebrated Nepali writer into a museum.
Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, while addressing a function on the occasion of Devkota’s birth anniversary last year, had announced the government’s plan to establish a museum at Kavikunja. However, the government was unable to move forward as it had not acquired the property.
But now, the Devkota family has transferred the ownership of the house and the land where it lies to the academy recently, according to the academy’s member secretary Jagat Prasad Upadhyaya. The academy handed over a cheque of Rs 25 million to Devkota’s sons–Padma Prasad and Deepak–at the Dillibajaar Land Revenue Office this Sunday.
