A recent report has placed Nepal above India and Pakistan, but below three of South Asian countries in terms of healthcare.

Nepal has scored 50.8 points in the Healthcare Access and Quality index published in The Lancet report whereas India has just 44.8 points.

“Highly standardised cause of death and risk factor estimates generated through the Global Burden of Diseases, Injuries, and Risk Factors Study (GBD) to improve and expand the quantification of personal health-care access and quality for 195 countries and territories from 1990 to 2015” had been analysed to conclude the research.

In particular, mortality rates from 32 diseases which should not be fatal in presence of effective medical care had been looked at.

In South Asia, Sri Lanka has an impressive score of 72.8 points. Bhutan and Bangladesh have 52.7 and 51.7 respectively.

Pakistan is below India with 43.1 points.

Nepal was above India and Bangladesh, but below Pakistan, Bhutan and Sri Lanka in 1990 with 34 points.
