Kathmandu, December 22

Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli-led faction of the ruling Nepal Communist Party, which is just waiting for the party split to be formal, has announced a 1,199-member convention organising committee.

The faction also decided to hold the party’s general convention on November 18-23, 2021.*

With this, the existing central committee member, in which Oli had already lost his majority, has been dissolved, claims the side.

The current central committee has 446 members. It has been decided that 556 members will be added to that committee immediately whereas 197 others will be incorporated later.

The announcement was made during the central committee meeting of the party at Oli’s official residence in Baluwatar this morning.

Meanwhile, the faction led by Pushpa Kamal Dahal and Madhav Kumar Nepal has called the central committee meeting for 1 pm today. The meeting is expected to take action against Oli.

Since Oli’s decision to dissolve the House of Representatives after he failed to command a majority in his party, the two sides have been holding parallel party meetings.

‘Pradeep Gyawali spokesperson’

Meanwhile, the meeting removed Narayan Kaji Shrestha from the position of party spokesperson, replacing him with Pradeep Kumar Gyawali.
