Kathmandu, June 16

The ruling Nepal Communist Party has asked its lawmakers who were absent during the House of Representatives meeting last Saturday when the House voted to endorse the constitution amendment bill to submit their explanations for the absence.

A meeting of the parliamentary party held on Tuesday made the decision.

Four lawmakers of the party–Haribol Gajurel, Gopal Bam, Dhan Bahadur Budha, and Shiva Kumar Mandal–were absent. In response, some lawmakers said they were absent due to health reasons, objecting to the party’s decision to seek clarifications.

The party’s chief whip Dev Gurung says the lawmakers were asked to explain their reasons of absence as per the regular party system.
