Kathmandu, July 22
The Nepali Congress, CPN-Maoist Centre and the United Democratic Madheshi Front have rejected Congress leader Ram Chandra Poudel’s proposal on ending the stalemate between the KP Oli government and opposition parties.
The three parties said they will not withdraw the no-confidence motion tabled in the House against the Oli government.
Leader Poudel had presented a proposal asking the NC and the Centre to withdraw the motion and PM Oli to resign, simultaneously. Poudel’s proposal had also requested parties to move ahead by building consensus and initiate a fresh process in the Parliament for the election of PM.
At a meeting held at the office of the NC Parliamentary Party in Singhadurbar on Friday, top leaders of the three major parties decided not to retract the motion, no matter what.
Congress leaader Bimalendra Nidhi told mediapersons after the meeting: We will not take back the no-confidence motion, no matter what. And from today, we will not seek Prime Minister’s resignation.
Reiterating his party’s stance, Nidhi said the House should hold discussions on the no-trust vote instead of focusing on budget-related Bills. Congress and the Maoist party have been seeking discussions on the motion first, whereas the UML has been demanding discussions on the Bills first.
Congress, Centre and UDMF also discussed formation of a new government. At the meeting, UDMF leaders pointed that the seven-point agreement with parties calls for bringing agitating parties including the UDMF into agreement.
