National unity government a must for Nepal: Speaker Onsari Gharti

Onsari-Gharti-1 (2)

Kathmandu, July 14

Speaker Onsari Gharti has said political parties that fought for declaration of Nepal as a republic and introduction of the constitution through a popularly-elected Constituent Assembly should join hands and form a national consensus government. Speaker Gharti said such a government is a must for Nepal.

She said this at a programme in Kathmandu on Friday. Gharti suggested political parties to move ahead by building consensus on issues of national importance and do all they can to form a unity government.

Gharti asked parties to focus on the passage of the annual budget and implementation of the constitution instead of engaging in disputes. She said the country may land in a serious crisis if parties pay no heed to people’s calls to move ahead on the basis of consensus.

Leaders of major political parties were present at the programme organised to discuss a draft report on mass communications policy and structure of the regulatory body. A high-level committee had prepared the report.

The committee is for putting the regulatory body under the Parliament and forming National Mass Communications Authority, among others.
