Kathmandu, October 26

The government has decided to relocate the National Library to Jamal of Kathmandu from Harihar Bhawan, Pulchok of Lalitpur.

The building where the library is currently located was severely damaged by the 2015 earthquake. Following that, the library’s functioning has been affected.

The government had already decided around three years ago to construct the new library building in Jamal. However, the decision was put on hold later, citing the Greater Tundikhel plan proposed by the National Reconstruction Authority. In the meantime, many stakeholders had accused the government of keeping the library project in limbo under the pressure from business groups.

Clearing the confusion, the cabinet meeting on Monday again decided to resume the construction process in Jamal, informs Education Minister Devendra Paudel. Officials in the ministry had been preparing to construct the library in Jamal itself since March this year.
