Man arrested on the charge of Narayanhiti Palace’s royal crown theft attempt

Kathmandu, September 24

One man has attempted to steal the royal crown of Nepali monarchs that has been kept at the Narayanhiti Palace Museum following the abolition of monarchy in 2008.

Police have arrested Khem Bahadur Gharti (25), a resident of Musikot municipality-11 of the Rukum Paschim district in Karnali, on the charge. It has been said that he took out a khukuri from the museum itself and tried to break the glass shield of the crown.

He had entered the museum as a visitor.

Bhesh Narayan Dahal the executive director of the Museum Management Committee, says the army personnel inside the museum had arrested Gharti and handed him over to the police for further investigation.

Gharti has been kept at the Metropolitan Police Circle in Durbarmarg for further investigation.
