The body of Armed Police Force Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Sagar Raj Tharu has been found. He went missing in the Mahakali River while trying to pull a Nepal Telecom cable that had snapped, along with a collapsed suspension bridge.
Tharu’s body was found stuck in the wire of the collapsed suspension bridge. The river’s strong current is making it difficult to retrieve the body.
According to Kanchanpur Chief District Officer Madan Koirala, the location of Tharu’s body has been identified. He said Tharu may have become entangled there while pulling the wire.
“The location of the body has been pinpointed. Looking from above the water, a person wearing an Armed Police Force T-shirt can be seen stuck in the wire,” Koirala said. “The strong current is making it a challenge to retrieve the body. Divers and the Nepal Army are making efforts.”
According to him, preparations have also been made to use a JCB to reduce the water flow if necessary.
The suspension bridge connecting Dodhara-Chandani collapsed two weeks ago. Nepal Telecom’s internet cable was also severed when the bridge collapsed. Tharu went missing in the Mahakali River when the boat went out of control while he was pulling that wire.
Tharu, from Thakurbaba Municipality-6, Tulsipur, Bardiya, had reported for duty at the Armed Police Force’s border security unit in Devasthan, Dodhara-Chandani, just the day before he went missing.
