The country is making noteworthy progress in adopting green energy. Despite the abundance of choices, encompassing hatchbacks, sedans, and compact SUVs from various brands, manoeuvring through town and city streets remains a daunting task due to persistent traffic jams.

First on the list of mini-electric city cars is Jiayuan City Spirit. The electric car quickly gained attention for the small size and price it was in. The City Spirit is available in two variants with two battery options in Nepal.

The Jiayuan City Spirit is a small and adorable mini-electric city car. Its compact size has options for four and two seats. It has a modern dashboard and user-friendly controls. Its features include LED daytime running lights, a panoramic roof and an infotainment display. It also has techs like Bluetooth™ connectivity, GPS, and a rear camera. It has an automatic transmission, McPherson Suspension, and 4-wheel disc brakes. It surely is an option as a city car for daily use.

Seres unveiled the Seres Mini EV, a versatile mini-electric city car, in three variants with 180km and 220km ranges. It drew significant attention at Nepal’s NADA Auto Show 2023 for its feature-rich offerings and affordable pricing.

The Seres Mini EV is a compact city car, with a boxy design like Japanese Kei Cars. It features sharp LED headlights and a centrally located DRL housing the charging port, its exterior includes two doors on each side, sliding front windows, and fixed rear ones.

The wheels are aluminium rims and 145/60 R13 tires. Inside, the simplistic interior offers door storage, speakers, and entertainment systems. A Permanent Magnetic Synchronous Motor powers it and delivers peak powers of 25 kW to 30 kW across variants, reaching a top speed of 100 km/h. The Lithium iron phosphate battery provides ranges of 180km and 220km, with charging times ranging from 3.5-4 hours to 4-4.5 hours.

3. MG Comet

The MG Comet EV is a mini-electric city car launched at the NADA Auto Show alongside the MG4 EV. The city car is the rebranding of another city car which comes later in the list, the Wuling Air EV.

It is a two-door hatchback mini city car which fits four people. It features distinctive Dual-Projector LED Headlamps, including a continuous LED strip extending to the side mirrors, while the MG logo lights up where the charging port is located. The rear design is the same as the front with Dual LED taillamps. As for performance, it has a 31.26 kW electric motor that powers the Comet, delivering 42PS power and 110Nm torque, propelling it to a top speed of 100 mph. It has a 17.3 kWh battery, with a 230 km range and charges in 7 hours using a 3.3kW AC charger.

It has a McPherson Strut and Multi-Link Coil suspension and 12-inch steel wheels. The MG Comet EV comes in two variants Pace and Play. The Play is the top-end version and the Pace is the base variant and lacks the availability of an infotainment system, leatherette seats and audio features.

4. Thee Go E8

In Nepal’s bustling cities, Thee Go E8 electric city car shines as a top pick for daily commutes, thanks to its practical design. It comes at an affordable price point for an electric vehicle, and despite its appearance as a conventional hatchback, it delivers on its features.

The Thee Go E8 has a 14.8KWh Li-Po battery and a 15 KW motor peak power, it reaches a top speed of 70 kmph with a range of 150 km on a single charge, taking less than 5 hours to recharge fully. Its torque of 180Nm ensures a smooth ride, while the front disc and rear drum brakes provide stopping power. It is equipped with 155/65 R13 tyres and a ground clearance of 160 mm and offers a modest boot space of 183 litres. The Thee Go E8 is ideal for navigating city streets and is a lightweight, eco-friendly city car choice.

Another compact and much more modern-looking family mini electric city car is the Henrey Mincar. The Henrey Mincar even though being has an aesthetic interior design and comfort.

The design of the Henrey Mincar is simple with curved edges all around. It has halogen headlights with LED daytime running lights (DRL). It has four doors and the grill is like most other EVs. The city car is powered by a Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor delivering 35 kW of maximum power and 102 Nm of torque.

It is equipped with a 16.5 kWh battery and offers a range of 150 km on a single charge and takes just 4 hours to recharge fully. Its front disc and rear drum brakes handle the braking whereas the suspension is handled by the McPherson Independent and Five Connecting Rods handle. It has tyres of 155/65 R13 size on both front and rear.

6. Wuling Air EV

The last on the list of the Mini electric city car is the Wuling Air EV. The mini electric city car was also on display at the 2023 NADA Auto Show and garnered quite some attention. The Wuling Air EVs design and the MG Comet design are the same with brand and name differences. Another difference between the two city cars is the performance spec.

The Wuling Air EV also has the same long LED DRL stretching across the front and the side mirrors. It has two doors which open pretty wide. It features a 30 kW Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor that delivers 30.1 kW of power and 110Nm of torque with an automatic transmission.

The city car offers two battery options: a 17.3 kWh standard range with a 200 km range and a 26.7 kWh long-range version with an extended 300 km range. Charging times vary accordingly with 8.5 hours for the standard range and 4 hours for the long-range model.
