MG ZS EV has finally made its way to Nepal.

The much-awaited electric SUV is now available in the market. Paramount Motors Pvt Ltd, the sole importer and distributor of MG motors in Nepal, has officially launched the MG ZS EV 2022 at its Naxal showroom. The company has offered two variants of this model: the standard and long-range ones.

There already was another model before the launch of the 2022 version of this SUV. The new MG ZS EV 2022 offers better specifications as well as a fresh new look. The 2022 model offers more motor power, higher torque, and higher battery capacity with a better range. The new model also offers higher top speed and several changes in the exterior and interior of the vehicle.

Design

The new MG ZS EV comes with a makeover which makes it look more like an electric SUV than a regular SUV.

At the front of the MG ZS EV, the bumper has been redesigned and the traditional-looking grille has been replaced by a more conventional EV type grille and gets the same paint as the body. The previous model had a charging port at the centre while the new model features a centrally located MG logo. Likewise, the charging point has been shifted to the right.

Similarly, the headlights, taillights and the rear bumper have also been redesigned on the vehicle. The vehicle now has full LED hawkeye headlamps and LED taillamps. The new MG ZS EV also features a new Tomhawk hub design alloy wheels.

Talking about the interior of the vehicle, it has a neat leather finish on most of the parts. The vehicle features a 17.8cm leather layered dashboard and also a leather-wrapped steering wheel. There is a big 25.7cm infotainment system on the vehicle and a panoramic sunroof. Furthermore, there is a driver armrest on the vehicle with a storage function and the rear has a centre armrest, headrest and AC vents.

The i-SMART next-gen technology on the vehicle is said to combine hardware, software, services and applications to make the driving experience easier and smoother. Additionally, the SUV offers 75+ connected car features. There is also a huge boot space of 470 litres. There are five doors and the seating capacity is also for five people.

MG ZS EV is available in currant red, Ashen silver, Sable black and Ferris white colours.

MG ZS EV is powered by a Permanent magnet synchronous motor with a battery capacity of 50.3 kWh (standard range) and 70 kWh (long range). It can generate a maximum power of 176.75 PS in the standard range and 156 PS in the long range.

For charging the battery, MG ZS EV long-range variant packs an 11kW three-phase onboard charger. The charging of the long-range variant can take up to 10 and a half hours when charged with a 7 kW charger. For the standard variant, the charging can take up to nine hours with a 7.4kW charger while the vehicle will get an 80% charge in just 60 minutes using the fast 50kW charger. Using the same 50kW charger, the long-range variant can take a little over an hour to get an 80% charge.  

When the vehicle is fully charged, it can provide a drive of 319km in the standard range and 440km in the long range, which is an upgrade from the previous generation model. The SUV can also achieve a top speed of up to 175 kmph, which again is an upgrade from 140 kmph.

Furthermore, MG ZS EV offers three riding modes to the users. The first–eco–mode offers an efficient driving mode suitable for city rides while maximising the range. The second mode of the vehicle is the normal mode, which provides a balanced range and driving performance and the last one is the sport mode, which provides an accelerated driving mode delivering an exhilarated driving experience.

Safety and other features

Safety is a major concern for any vehicle and especially with the help of modern technology, every vehicle should be equipped with the most safety features. Talking about the safety features of the new MG ZS EV, there are six airbags inside the vehicle. There are disc brakes on both ends and the vehicle gets power back while braking with the regenerative braking system.

The new MG ZS EV also has a 360-degree camera, hill-start/descent control and also tyre pressure monitoring system. Furthermore, there is also a rear-drive assist feature on the vehicle which includes blind spot detection (BSD), lane change assist, and rear cross-traffic alert (RCTA) which detects vehicles approaching from the rear left or right that are out of the reverse camera and censors sight.

There is also an electronic stability control (ESC) feature on the vehicle. This feature is designed to automatically help stabilise the vehicle when it detects a momentary loss of control.

Verdict

In this price range, MG ZS EV competes against the most popular electric cars in the mid-range category which includes  Hyundai Kona, Hyundai IoniqKia Niro, BYD e6 and Tata Nexon EV. But, you will have to wait and see to know if it becomes successful in the competition.
