Melamchi Water Supply Project: Govt begins testing tunnel

The deadline of Melamchi Water Supply Project is deferred almost every year.

Kathmandu, July 5

The government on Sunday has begun testing the efficiency and quality of the tunnel that it has constructed to supply water from Melamchi of Sindhupalchok to Kathmandu Valley.

The deadline of the ambitious Melamchi Water Supply Project has been deferred repeatedly in the past few years. Now, the government says the project will be able to deliver water to Kathmanduites by the next year.

Water Supply Minister Bina Magar is announcing the beginning of the test during a press meet in Kathmandu this afternoon.

The 27-km tunnel will deliver the water to the project’s processing centre in Sundarijal on the northeastern outskirts of Kathmandu.
