Measles outbreak in Dhorpatan under control

The measles outbreak that spread in the Dhorpatan area in Baglung nearly two months ago has come under control. The infection was reported in Wards 7, 8, and 9 of Dhorpatan Municipality on February 20, the officials said.

A team of the World Health Organization, the Provincial Public Health Office and local health workers had launched a vaccination campaign in the affected areas to control the outbreak. Although the number of infections decreased after children and adolescents in the area were vaccinated from March 13 to 16, the situation has not been fully brought under control.

The disease is gradually under control after the inoculation drive to children and adults, it is said. According to Prabin Sharma, Chief of the Provincial Public Health Office, the daily number of patients visiting the hospital has decreased, as a patient visited the health facility on Tuesday for the first time after eight days. Sharma said that 239 suspected cases of measles were reported in the municipality and 14 cases were confirmed following the sample tests carried out in the National Public Health Laboratory, Kathmandu.
