Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has stressed that the controversial Millennium Challenge Corporation deal signed between Nepal and the United States has to be endorsed in this session of the House.

As the newly elected Speaker Agni Prasad Sapkota chaired the House of Representatives meeting for the first time on Tuesday afternoon, Oli spoke to congratulate him. In his address, the prime minister said, “Since a long ago, the MCC (agreement) has already passed multiple stages and six to seven prime ministers ruled in the process. It is awaiting endorsement and it has to be done soon.”

Oli also assured that he would explain details of the deal next time, adding he would support Parliament whenever necessary.

While assuming his office on Monday, Sapkota had told the media that he would not hurry to endorse the deal. He said he would let the ongoing discussions about the issue reach its conclusion before getting approved from Parliament.
