Kathmandu, October 11

The distribution of constituencies among the CPN-UML, CPN-Maoist Centre and Naya Shakti Party Nepal has become more tricky as the Maoist Centre says it cannot leave any of two constituencies in Gorkha district for Naya Shakti chief Baburam Bhattarai.

The three parties have already signed an agreement to contest upcoming provincial and federal parliamentary elections together and merge the parties after the polls.

Bhattarai has also agreed to contest the polls with the UML’s sun as his election symbol.

Bhattarai wants to contest the polls from Gorkha Constituency 2, where he is from. But, Maoist party’s second-in-command Narayan Kaji Shrestha is also adamant that he will file his candidacy from the same constituency.

The Maoist party’s central leaders proposed that Bhattarai then contest from Constituency 1 in the district, but local leaders opposed that option too, according to a source.
