At least 11 persons died in two bus accidents in the Makawanpur and Rukum East districts in parts of the country on Thursday.

While seven persons have died so far in Bhimphedi of Makawanpur, four others died in a similar accident in Kyangsi Bagar, Bhume rural municipality-3 of Rukum East in Lumbini.

In Rukum, the bus heading towards Rukumkot from Kathmandu (Ga 1 Kha 9109) fell around 50 metres down the road, killing four persons on the spot, informs DSP Prakash Dangi, the District Police Office chief.

Makawanpur bus accident: Death toll hits 7 (Updated)

The death toll in a bus accident in the Makawanpur district of central Nepal has reached seven.

Police say while six persons died on the spot one succumbed to injuries during treatment.

Many persons are injured and rescue efforts are underway, suggesting the death toll may rise.

Makawanpur bus fall kills 5

Five persons died when a passenger bus fell off the road in Jurikhet, Bhimphedi rural municipality of the Makawanpur district, some kilometres south of Kathmandu.

The local government’s vice-chairman Sanjeev Shrestha says the bus (Ba 3 Kha 7858) heading towards Hetaunda from Kathmandu fell off the road this afternoon.

Many persons are injured and rescue efforts are underway, suggesting the death toll may rise.

The injured are being taken to Hetaunda for further treatment.
