Kathmandu, September 17

Public buses providing long-route services are resuming their operation after a gap of nearly six months, on Thursday.

Culturally, Hindus in Nepal and India celebrate the Bishwakarma Puja festival today, on which they worship the machinery used for livelihood. Transport entrepreneurs and workers say they are happy to resume their work on this auspicious day.

The service was suspended since late March after the fears of coronavirus infection increased in the country. Recently, the government had decided to resume the service from today, by maintaining needful safety measures against the risk of infection.

Speaking in a meeting hosted by the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport on Wednesday morning, representatives of organisations of entrepreneurs and workers had said they were ready to resume the service.

Meanwhile, some transport companies have launched online ticket booking considering the risk of infection in physical contacts.
