‘Liar’ Oli-led council had nominated constitutional officials on Dec 15

Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli

Kathmandu, December 20

It has been found that the Constitutional Council meeting held on December 15 had nominated various persons for 45 vacant positions at constitutional bodies.

Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli had issued an ordinance to convene the meeting even in absence of the House of Representatives Speaker and the main opposition leader on December 15. Besides Oli, Chief Justice Cholendra Shamsher Rana and National Assembly Chairman Ganesh Timilsina had attended the meeting that day.

After strong protests inside the ruling Nepal Communist Party, Oli had said he would withdraw the ordinance. According to the party’s spokesperson Narayan Kaji Shrestha, Oli had told the standing committee meeting the next day that the council had not taken any decision.

But, sources say the government sent the list of nominees for the parliamentary hearing during to the Federal Parliament Secretariat on Sunday. It means Oli lied to his party.

Sources say former home secretary Prem Kumar Rai has been recommended to lead the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority.

The names have been sent just after President Bidya Devi Bhandari ordered the dissolution of the House, endorsing Oli’s recommendation.
