Leopard enters Kathmandu airport runway, flights affected

Kathmandu, April 3

A leopard was spotted roaming the runway of the Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu on Monday morning.

Authorities immediately put all flights on hold and called in support from district forest officials. However, the leopard fled the runway and hasn’t been tracked yet.

The incident took place at 7 am when the first flights from the airport were scheduled to take off. Authorities resumed flights around one hour after the incident.

Police believe the animal may have entered the airport from gate No. 4. This is not the first time that animals have strayed onto the airport. In October last year, a stray goat on the runway had forced a Bhutan Airlines flight to abort landing.
