Lalitpur Metropolitan City to establish separate department for children’s issues

Newly elected people’s representatives in Lalitpur Metropolitan City have said they will establish a separate department within the metropolis to look into issues concerning children.

Speaking at a function organised on the occasion of the World Day against Chied Labour in Lalitpur today, the LMC Deputy Mayor Geeta Satyal announced that the Metropolitan City would prioritise minimisation of violence and abuse against children, child marriages and child labour.

She was of the view that the local bodies should be responsible for protection, development and participation of children.

Other stakeholders participating in the programme had discussed various aspects of new structure of local governments and their relationship with child rights.

The function was jointly organised by the Lalitpur Metropolitan City and the CWIN.
