Kathmandu police have prepared a special plan in view of security threats during the Dashain festival.
SSP Basant Lama, head of Kathmandu Police, said that 3,535 police personnel have been deployed in Kathmandu in view of the festivities.
“We have deployed police in blocks,” said Lama adding that 50 per cent of the personnel are patrolling the city on foot. Similarly, police units have aslo been deployed on bicycles, motorcycles and vans. “We have also deployed some personnel in civvies,” he added.
A team of sniffer dogs has also been deployed on key entry points of the valley such as Thankot, Nagdhunga, Jagati, Farping and Balaju, he explained.
Police officials say that the festivities bring with them a spike in murder, extortion, abduction and violence against women cases.
