Kathmandu, August 24

The Kathmandu metropolitan city has demolished illegal structures at Kathmandu Mall, a commercial building owned by the Employee Provident Fund, arguing they obstructed underground parking facilities there.

The move comes one day after the city government demolished similar structures of various buildings in the Naya Baneshwar area of the city.

Mayor Balen Shah along with Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Office Chief DIG Mira Chaudhary went to the site for demolition this morning.

Following that, the Kathmandu city team also went to the New Road area to demolish illegal structures.

The city government’s recent move targets parts of commercial buildings where traders have operated shops although they were meant for underground parking.

Because of this, motorists and bikers have been forced to park their vehicles on pedestrian pavements.
