Kathmandu, December 23

The Kathmandu metropolitan city has spent Rs 623 million for its own office management but only Rs 330 million for development projects in the first four months of the current fiscal year.

From mid-July to mid-November 2020, the city government spent Rs 1.4 billion in total. This is 9.86 per cent of the city government’s annual budget (Rs 14.26 billion).

As per the records, the local unit spent Rs 623.2 million on administration. This is 33.44 per cent of the city’s annual administration budget (Rs 1.86 billion).

But, the ratio of its development spending is hopeless as it could spend only Rs 329.4 billion, which is just 3.48 per cent of the annual development budget (Rs 7.846 billion).

On the other hand, the local government distributed Rs 22 million to various persons and organisations as financial assistance.

The KMC spokesperson Ishwar Man Dangol says the complicated and lengthy tender process resulted in the low development spending in the first four months of the fiscal year. He assures the spending capacity would increase in the upcoming assessment as around 60 per cent of the planned development works have already been assigned.
