Kathmandu, June 22

The Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu will be closed for half an hour, from 4:30 to 5 pm, on Friday for a full-scale emergency exercise.

The International Civil Aviation Organisation requires that international airports perform such drill every two years.

TIA spokesperson Prem Nath Thakur says a dummy aeroplane will be made to catch fire tomorrow and trained rescuers will practise evacuating passengers from the aircraft.

No domestic or international flight will operate during this period.

Helicopters will also be used during the exercise for rescue.
