Kanchanpur town tense as ambulance hits and kills cyclist

Tension ran high in the Krishnapur municipality-5 of the Kanchanpur district in far-western Nepal after an ambulance hit and killed a cyclist.

Locals obstructed the Krishnapur section of the East-West Highway on Wednesday morning after the ambulance (Ma 1 Cha 288) heading to Mahendranagar from Attariya hit Krishna Bahadur Air (45). Seriously injured in the accident, Air breathed his last while undergoing treatment at the Seti Provincial Hospital in Dhangadhi, informs the Sudurpaschim Provincial Traffic Police Office.

Following the accident, the locals burned tyres and blocked vehicles demanding action against the driver and compensation to the victim’s family.

Police have arrested the ambulance driver Ganesh Bista, a resident of Bhimdutta municipality-16 of the district, for further investigation. The ambulance belonged to the Nepal Red Cross Society.
