Manang, September 9

Only one doctor, that too appointed by the government on a temporary contract basis, is operating Manang’s district hospital.

Until a few weeks back, there was an additional government doctor. However, Gandaki Provincial Health Directorate transferred the doctor to Pokhara. Following that, Dr Santosh Adhikari alone is leading the hospital alone.

Chief District Officer Dhruva Giri says the unavailability of sufficient human resources has affected the treatment of Covid-19 patients and those with similar symptoms in the district.

“The problem will multiply if he goes on leave or falls sick,” Giri says, adding, “We are trying to solve the problem though.”

The government has allocated two permanent doctors for the district hospital, but there is no one currently. Likewise, 11 other health workers including two staff nurses have been allocated for the district, but there are only three doctors besides the doctor.
