Kathmandu, July 26

Journalists working at private media houses have accused the President’s Office of discriminating against them by not allowing them to enter the Sheetal Niwas premises to cover significant events.

For past few months, the President’s Office has not allowed them to capture images and cover events including oath taking, they say.

Meanwhile, the Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) says the Sheetal Niwas has informed that journalists working for other media than the government-run ones will not be allowed to attend the oath taking ceremony of new ministers today.

President Bidya Devi Bhandari is administering the oath of office and secrecy to new ministers today as Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba is expanding the Cabinet.

Objecting to the discriminatory behaviour, the umbrella organisation of Nepali journalists has demanded that the President’s Office immediate correct its decision which it said was against sentiments of free press.

It demanded that journalists get an easy access to information.
