Journalist Balaram Baniya found dead

Kantipur daily’s assistant editor Balaram Baniya, who was missing for the past three days, has been found dead on Wednesday.

SSP Deepak Thapa, the chief of the Metropolitan Crime Division, says Baniya’s body was found at the project site of Mando Hydropower Project in Sisneri of Makawanpur district, around 30 km south of Kathmandu.

Earlier, his family had filed an application to the Metropolitan Police Range in Kathmandu and Metropolitan Crime Division, requesting the security personnel to search for him citing he did not return home since Monday. Following the application, the police had traced his location based on his mobile phone.

His phone was found switched off from around 1 on Monday afternoon. When on, the phone was located to have been in Balkhu of Kathmandu. Meanwhile, Baniya was seen walking on the bank of Bagmati in Balkhu on Monday afternoon, according to an investigation officer.

A pair of shoes was found on the bank, which his daughter confirmed to be of Baniya.

Further investigation is underway.
