Jhapa police arrest two with counterfeit banknotes of Rs 75,000 face value

Jhapa, July 12

Police in the Jhapa district of eastern Nepal have arrested two persons in possession of counterfeit Indian banknotes with the face value of Rs 75,000.

One of the arrestees has been identified as Mausam Shrestha, a jewellery trader of Surunga, Kankai municipality-2 of the district. The District Police Office has not revealed the identity of the second person.

They were arrested with 150 banknotes with Rs 500 denomination each.

The DPO chief, SP Krishna Prasad Koirala, says the police will launch a detailed investigation into the case after the court would remand the suspects.

In their preliminary statements with the police, the arrestees said they had many other banknotes, which they already used in the market.
