Local representatives of three wards in Kalyanpur Municipality in Siraha district say it will now be ‘illegal’ for minors to use mobile phones or ride motorbikes.
Representatives of Wards 4,5 and 6 say they have also banned locals from playing Bhojpuri songs, which have earned a reputation for ‘disrespecting’ women, in public places, said Ward 6 chief Motibul Rine.
According to Rine, if a minor is found using a mobile phone, he/she shall be fined Rs 500. Similarly, anyone found playing Bhojpuri songs shall be fined Rs 5,000.
The representatives have also decided to ban the sale of alcohol in their jurisdiction. Shop owners have been handed a 15-day deadline to close their businesses.
