Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has said that the IIFA awards issue was blown out of proportion by both the media and the public. He said that it was part of a plan to disrupt Visit Nepal Year 2020.
“This is their plan to stop us from reaching 2 million tourists,” he said speaking at a program to welcome a new member into the NCP in Kathmandu.
He also condemned the decision of the parliament’s international committee to direct the government to not host the awards in Kathmandu. “Our plan was to create more impact on tourism by spending less. But, everyone got the wrong information,” he said.
PM Oli said that the government had never planned to spend billions to host Bollywood’s award show. “Everyone panicked so much that the parliamentary committee rushed to a decision to not host the award show. They didn’t even think about it the positive and the negative impacts,” said PM Oli.
