New IGP appointment was government’s decision, not RSP’s, says Kabindra Burlakoti

Kabindra Burlakoti - IGP

Kathmandu, November 5

Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) parliamentary party chief whip Kavindra Burlakoti has said the appointment of Nepal Police’s new Inspector General of Police (IGP) was a government decision, not a party decision.

Burlakoti made the remarks during a meeting with journalists in Gorkha on Wednesday.

“I was at an event in Gorkha throughout the day and have not been able to communicate with anyone at any level of the party,” he said. “Looking at the developments of recent days, the government must have felt that this was the appropriate course of action, and acted accordingly.”

He argued that since the decision was made by the government, it was not necessary for the government to consult the party on every matter.

“Two things are important in the decision to change the IGP. One is the interference in media houses, and the other is who among the judges was connected to middlemen. The decision to change the IGP must have been made after taking all these developments into account,” Burlakoti said.

The government on Wednesday removed Dan Bahadur Karki from the post of Nepal Police IGP and appointed Dr Manoj Kumar KC as his successor.
