Kathmandu, March 11

The Parliamentary Hearing Special Committee on Wednesday decided to begin a procedure to conduct the hearing for the appointment of Mahendra Bahadur Pandey as Nepal’s ambassador to China.

The Cabinet meeting last week had nominated Pandey, a leader of the ruling Nepal Communist Party and former minister for foreign affairs, for the position while calling back incumbent Leela Mani Paudyal.

A meeting of the House committee held this morning called the public to file complaints against Pandey in the next 10 days if they have any. After studying the complaints, the committee will summon Pandey for the hearing. Then, the president will appoint him.

Paudyal, a retired chief secretary of the government, was appointed the ambassador in September 2016. Before his appointment, the government during Oli’s first premiership had nominated Pandey for the position but it was withdrawn after the Nepali Congress-Maoist alliance toppled the government.
